OVERSEAS PASSENGER TERMINAL NORTHERN TOWER UPGRADE

Client: NSW Port Authority

Location: Circular Quay West, The Rocks NSW 2000

Service: refurbishment

Service: Government Commercial

Completion: 2022

We commenced construction works on the northern tower of the Overseas Passenger Terminal in late 2021.

The locations required a cantilevered scaffold to be erected three stories above a busy harbour side restaurant and crane movements to be safely undertaken along the Circular Quay foreshore.

The scope of works for the consisted of structural amendments and rust removal of the steel structure, with services relocations and a new flagpole installation. Works included demolition of select steel members and existing flagpole, and encapsulation of the whole two top levels of the tower.

The encapsulation allowed for the abrasive sandblasting of the lead paint from the steel members whilst also removing rust. The environment was consistently monitored and tested as per the lead exposure control plan to ensure worker, public and environmental safety and protection, in accordance with AS 4361.1.
